- Schedule a Roof and Siding Inspection
Roof damage is the most frequent structural loss caused by hail and windstorms. As a property owner, it is a good idea to have your roof and siding inspected. If there is any previous damage or weak spots, you will want to have these fixed before the next storm hits!
2) Clean Out Your Gutters
Gutters remove excess water from the roof of your home after it rains. Unfortunately, if your gutters are full of soggy leaves, dirt and other debris, water may settle on your roof, causing damage to your shingles. Clean your gutters out annually to avoid costly damage from the elements.
3) Maintain Your Trees
Trees can cause severe damage when they fall onto roofs. Make it a point to look for diseased or weak trees around your property. If any tree is weak, remove it ASAP, or risk having it torn from the ground easily by the wind. Also, pickup any branches that maybe dangling or located in your yard.
4) Protect your vehicle
Vehicles are vulnerable to potential damage from blowing debris and hail. If possible, park your vehicle in the garage or under a covered parking space. If you do not have access to covered parking, another option is to find temporary shelter such as a parking garage. Other options include car covers, or blankets.
5) Secure Objects
Severe storms can send loose objects flying, turning them into projectiles that can severely damage your home. Anchor outdoor objects such as sporting equipment, tools BBQ grills to the ground to secure them.
